Instagram rolled out a feature that lets you add tagged posts to your profile grid, but app users aren’t impressed.
Since Sept. 10, any cute group photos, collabs or memories you’re tagged in can be a part of your main grid too, without needing to delete the original post.
How does the new feature work?
Users can add a tagged post to their grid from the notification they receive after being tagged, from the post itself or through their Tagged tab. If they change their mind, they can remove it from the main grid later without deleting the original post or removing the tag.
Instagram says the feature gives users more control over how their profiles look and could also be useful for creators who want to highlight content they appear in without reposting it.
It follows another profile-focused update from earlier this year that lets users rearrange posts on their grids.
‘Isn’t collaboration something like that already?’ Instagram users aren’t impressed with the new feature
Some users were quick to point out that Instagram already has a Collab feature, which allows two or more accounts to co-author the same post.
But there is a difference.
With a Collab post, both accounts are listed as authors, the post appears on each collaborator’s profile and engagement is shared across the participating accounts. A regular tagged post doesn’t make the tagged person a co-author. The new feature simply gives them the option of displaying that post on their own grid.
That distinction hasn’t stopped some users from wondering whether Instagram really needed another similar-looking option.
Users say they wished for other features, such as seeing who unfollowed them.
“Isn’t collaboration something like that already?” one Instagram user questioned.
“We don’t want this,” another said.
“All we want is to see who unfollowed us, bro,” another said.
But some have a rather positive outlook.
“Life-changing,” one said.
“What an awesome feature,” another added.
