Jamie Cheveldeyoff

SIGNATURE PRODUCT: Koma Designs founder Cheveldeyoff is hung up on, well, hanging things up. [rssbreak]His interior projects include tables, shelves and kitchen islands suspended by aircraft cable, pulleys and rusty counterweights. His other fixation? Reclaiming materials like the wood and metal camera stands that form the base of his tripod lamps.

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY: “I’m reminding people that old objects don’t have to become waste,” says Cheveldeyoff. “Each of the lights begins with a single vintage Edison bulb surrounded by a transparent cylindrical shade.” The one-of-a-kind legs extend, transforming the piece from a table lamp to a floor fixture.

NEW WORKS: In April, Cheveldeyoff relaunched his five-year-old Parkdale shop as a collective space that showcases other local makers like Holtzundmetal, Umomo and the Brothers Dressler. For fall, the group is working on an e-commerce site and hunting for a new industrial showroom to display their designs.
