Kid Icarus

KID ICARUS 205 Augusta, 416-977-7236, kidicarus.ca

At Kid Icarus’s teensy old location on Nassau, the staff had to wait for the shop to close before they could take over the space for screen-printing projects. At their new, substantially larger store and studio two blocks south on Augusta, Bianca Bickmore, Michael Viglione and their team have more than enough room to get creative on the hydraulic paper cutters and vintage presses they use to print custom posters, business cards and invitations.

The square footage boost also means there’s a lot more room up front for covetable local and handmade buys. In addition to Kid Icarus standbys like Bookhou textiles, Dave Murray’s neighbourhood posters and Needlings stuffed characters, they’ve added great gifts like Noble Beaver olive trays and Rare Specimens jewellery.

Of course, there are still stacks of card options for that special someone who appreciates great design in their greetings.

Kid Icarus picks: Vancouver-based Banquet creates graphic posters of sea animals and forest creatures, $60 to $135 take note of Kid Icarus’s own Toronto map-covered pads, $10 Falcon Wright silkscreened leather pouches come in coin purse to clutch sizes, $20 to $56.

Look for: A series of workshops on silkscreening, woodblock printing and sewing starting in January.

Hours: Monday to Saturday noon to 7 pm, Sunday noon to 5 pm.
