LUSTRE, 439 Danforth, 647-435-8195 Rating: NNNNN
Glynis Dupuis is best known for Response, her west-end shop where she sells her almost 10-year-old line of chic party frocks and a sprinkling of coordinating dressy heels and handbags. Now, following in the footsteps of her Queen and Euclid neighbour Pho Pa, she's gone east to the Danforth to open her second shop, Lustre, where the accessories take centre stage.
That stage consists of suspended resin-and-chicken-wire swings laid out with footwear by mid-range labels like Kenzie (peep-toe heels in burnished metallics), Ash (suede and leather pumps in a range of nude tones) and Cindy Says (leopard and cheetah print elastic flats. Jewellery with miniature semi-precious stones and gold-plated charms lies in hanging flower pots filled with grains of rice.
The bulk of the bags at Lustre are from the New York-based Tano line, which combines Italian leathers in grass green, mustard and cranberry and oversized hardware into fashionable and functional totes. They drop from the ceiling from hand-braided white rope next to Jack & Marjorie purses that look surprisingly refined, considering their fabric is sourced from used army tents. Lustre picks: A Tano forest-green hobo bag has a front cargo pocket and side buckles, $272; Sam Edelman flats are wrapped in anything-but-precious turquoise lace, $99 on sale; a large, faceted orange stone shines beside owl- and leaf-shaped beads on a David Aubrey necklace, $95.
Look for: Fall footwear arriving at the end of July, including flat and solid-heel boots by Seychelles with wrap-around leather strapping.
Hours: Monday to Wednesday 11 am to 6 pm, Thursday and Saturday to 7 pm, Friday to 8 pm, Sunday noon to 6 pm.
