Millicent Vee and Fleurtje

MILLICENT VEE AND FLEURTJE, 55 Mill, building 74, 416-364-6472 Rating: NNNNN

After 10 years each in the accessories trade, Fleurtje bags (www.fleurtjebag.com) and Millicent Vee knits (www.millicentvee.com) have paired up in a joint boutique in the Distillery District’s Case Goods Warehouse. Building 74 is an Artscape space anchored by a main-floor mini-mall that’s home to designers and artisans including Fawn Ceramics and Tank fire + metal.

The Fleurtje line’s messengers and totes made from upholstery-grade vinyl are instantly recognizable for their floral appliqués and nature scene collages. Lori Dunn’s Millicent Vee collection includes winter-ready ponchos, toques and arm warmers made from colourful natural fibres. Both lines share a clean and simple look.

What happens to a knit designer when the weather starts warming up? Look for new Millicent Vee pieces made using silk and rayon yarns, while Fleurtje’s spring offerings include more enviro-friendly leather options and bags with carved plywood handles.

Millicent Vee and Fleurtje picks: Millicent Vee’s hit of the season is the cable-knit toque available in a wide range of earthy colours, $46 laptop toters can pack their Notebooks into Fleurtje’s black GT bag with a double yellow stripe, $180 for the best of both designers, pick up the 2nd Date bag, which incorporates a grey woolly panel, $130.

Look for: A growing children’s section featuring sturdy, stylish diaper bags and hand-knit baby booties.

Hours: Wednesday to Sunday noon to 5 pm.
