More Mexico: Chowing down

It’s not all lucha libre wrestling and mariachi clowns at this weekend’s Mexico: Beyond Your Expectations at Harbourfront.

On Saturday (July 18), chef Jose Hadad of Frida (999 Eglinton West, at Glen Cedar, 416-787-2221), who’s worked with Michael Stadtländer and Mark McEwan, demonstrates how to make rolled chicken enfrijoladas in peppery black beans topped with feta-like cotija cheese and homegrown epazote sprouts (2 pm, Lakeside Terrace, York Quay Centre, 235 Queens Quay West).

At 5 pm, he tackles churros coupled with cajeta caramel and strawberry sauces.

On Sunday (July 19) at 2 pm, the venue hosts the crew from La Tortilleria (see review, page 31), who’ll be whipping up cheese quesadillas and crispy fried tacos made with fresh tortillas ‘n’ salsa.
