Mrs. Huizenga

MRS. HUIZENGA, 387 Keele, 416-604-4286, mrshuizenga.com

Roncie’s favourite vintage shopkeeper Catherine Huizenga has opened a second Mrs. Huizenga location in the Junction and filled it with her signature eclectic, priced-to-move mix of housewares, clothing and furniture. The double storefront sets itself apart from Mrs. H’s original outlet with the addition of larger and designer pieces sourced in collaboration with Clayton Williams and Bonnie Meacham, the duo behind the biannual Clothing Show.

Standout home accents include free-form glass ashtrays, retro bar accessories including colourful goblets and chrome ice buckets, and sets of kitchen tins for flour, tea and sugar. Furniture ranges from a perfectly worn gold side table to a 1925 Wassily chair wrapped with thick leather straps.

There are also salvaged doors and mantel pieces along with a collection of textiles, printed fibreglass curtains and floral frocks.

Mrs. Huizenga picks: A metal patio chair still sports its original white powder coat of paint, $85 picnic with a set of pastel Melmac plates, $45 1970s floral and crystal brooches cover a miniature dress form, $10 to $45.

Look for: A Junction shop crawl on August 5 when Mrs. Huizenga and other retailers open their doors from 7 to 11 pm to highlight the neighbourhood’s design chops.

Hours: Wednesday to Friday 11 am to 6 pm, Saturday 11 am to 7 pm, Sunday noon to 6 pm.
