Portobello East

PORTOBELLO EAST The Fermenting Cellar in the Distillery District, 55 Mill, 416-628-3184, portobelloeast.com

Art and style shoppers are going to market Sunday (July 26) for the launch of Portobello East. An offshoot of similar consumer concepts in Vancouver and Calgary, and inspired by European markets, Toronto’s version takes place in the Distillery District on the last Sunday of every month through December.

For its debut this weekend, director Carlie Smith has gathered an eclectic mix of established and emerging designers and artisans. There’s Domistyle and its kitchen aprons embroidered with cheeky sayings, plus bags by lines like Ruby & Apple and Jabu. Clothing exhibitors include recognized local names like Judy Black, Leah Bazian and Sui Generis.

Smith says the market will change from month to month as designers switch up summer stock for fall goodies and holiday gifts and new names get added to the Portobello East roster.

Look for: Most designers will be on hand to talk you through your purchase.

Hours: Last Sunday of every month, noon to 6 pm.
