Radiant Dark

RADIANT DARK 2009: ELEGANT CORRUPTIONS presented by Made at 358 Dufferin, unit 201, Thursday to Sunday (February 5 to 8). Free. madedesign.ca/radiantdark.

THE CONCEPT: Think of Radiant Dark as Dundas West Canadian design mecca Made (867 Dundas West, 416-607-6384) to the max. The second installation of the show moves to a Queen and Dufferin warehouse space conveniently located on the route from IDS at the Direct Energy Centre to the Gladstone Hotel, where curators Shaun Moore and Julie Nicholson also present two Come Up To My Room suites.

LOOK FOR: Work by 33 Canadian studios, including Cali Balles and Don Maclennan’s Grey Shadows glass pendant lights, Lubo Brezina’s 2X4 table made from reclaimed planks, and Bev Hisey’s Dirty Dishes carpets hooked to resemble petri-dish viruses under a microscope.

SHOP OP: Most pieces are available to purchase or order at the show. If you need some time to save up, shop the glassware, lighting, furniture and textile buys at Made following Radiant Dark.

THE PARTY: Sorry, you’re a day late for Wednesday night’s opening bash, but a Walk & Talk guided tour Sunday (February 8, noon to 1 pm) offers another opportunity to chat up designers.
