RICHARD BOOTH 138 Cumberland, 416-960-3207, richardbooth.ca
Richard Booth has diamonds in his pockets. Sometimes sapphires. On the day I visit his 27-year-old Old York Lane shop, it's a 54-carat pink kunzite that will find its way onto a necklace. Maybe it will be set in rose gold, Booth's precious-metal pick of the moment. He likes its warm shimmer and how it shines on any skin tone.
Booth isn't just a middleman between the North and South American designers he represents and the jewellery shoppers of Yorkville. He's a goldsmith, too, who takes pride in channelling his customers' personalities and desires into chic custom pieces.
The stars do stop by, but Booth will never say who. He knows the sparkle of his baubles upstages a good celebrity plug any day.

Richard Booth picks: A hefty ring is set with an oval faceted citrine, $5,000; mint-coloured tourmaline and topaz stones hang off a 19-karat white gold chain, $7,000; for the (slightly) more frugal among us, the Italian Rebecca line includes a rose gold bracelet hung with oversized jewel-tone charms, $807.
Look for: 50 to 70 per cent off diamond earrings and necklaces as Booth clears out to make room for cooler-weather stock.
Hours: Tuesday to Friday 11 am to 6 pm, Saturday 11 am to 5 pm, Sunday 1 to 5 pm.
