See Maxim’s first woman-free cover

Maxim’s new(ish) female editor-in-chief, Kate Lanphear, made it her mission to reinvent the magazine’s frat boy image. Now, her September issue makes Maxim history by putting a man on the cover without any women in sight. The dreamy (if we can say so) cover features actor Idris Elba.

“This is the very first time, and there was no one else in the world more badass than Idris,” Lanphear told fashion site Racked. “For me, he was really the perfect embodiment of what I think the new Maxim man is. He’s multi-dimensional, he’s complex, he’s sophisticated, but he’s down to earth.”

Her innovative thinking seems to be working. The magazine reports a 143 per cent increase in ad pages from last year.
