SHAN, 38 Avenue Road, 416-961-7426, www.shan.ca Rating: NNNNN

Sitting through a Shan swimwear show during Toronto Fashion Week can make the sveltest figures antsy for a set of sit-ups. The Montreal-based bathing suit brand does super-sexy silhouettes but smart design tricks (fabric colours that flatter both tanned and pasty skin tones, bikini tops and bottoms sold separately to guarantee a perfect fit) mean everyone can get in on the hawtness.

The Toronto store at Avenue Road and Yorkville is swimming in slinky women’s one- and two-piece suits, manly Speedo and surfer styles and luxe pieces from the in-house line of lingerie and sportswear. Stretch polyesters in Pucciesque prints, and staple solids like butter yellows and coral for the ladies and deep blues, browns and charcoals for guys get cut in classic shapes with fashion-forward details.

A Shan suit is an investment (most prices land in the $100 to $200 range), but strong construction and a made-in-Canada tag will keep you looking beachy dip after dip.

Shan picks: Men’s models get Greek god names including the Achilles – trim, short trunks with snap military pockets, $175 the women’s Rio one-piece suit features a ruffled V-neck and low 50s-style leg, $245 cover up with a brown jersey tie-neck tunic, $275.

Look for: Sale season for swimwear starts at the end of August, so save up and stop in to pick up next summer’s suit.

Hours: Monday to Wednesday and Saturday 10 am to 6 pm, Thursday and Friday 10 am to 7 pm, Sunday noon to 5 pm.
