So you want to design Toronto?

Oxford Properties and the city of Toronto present the second annual NXT City Prize, which offers people under the age of 35 the chance to put their public space design dreams into action.

This year’s theme is “opportunity” – how can T.O. maximize economic, social and environmental opportunities? Entrants submit their big idea to improve a public space anywhere in Toronto and the winner takes home a $5,000 cash prize along with the chance that the city might implement the idea. Category winners receive $1,000 each.

Last year’s winner proposed a pedestrian corridor at Yonge and College, including a curbless streetscape, patio seating and tree planting.

Judges includes fashion titan Joe Mimran, chief planner Jennifer Keesmaat and the Design Exchange’s Shauna Levy. Submissions are accepted from individuals or teams of up to four until midnight July 31. For more details, visit nxtcityprize.com.
