Spectacle Eyewear

Spectacle Eyewear, 752 Queen West, 416-603-0123, www.spectacle-eyewear.com Rating: NNNNN

Having four eyes has never been so fashionable. And owner Jag Dhillon of Spectacle on Queen West — since May 2004 — is determined to keep it that way. “Eyewear excites me,” he exclaims, pointing out the temple of one frame that’s been laser-cut for optimum visibility and the exclusive colour of a pair of sunglasses scored at a fashion show in Italy.

Boasting a collection of 1,300 handpicked pieces by designers ranging from Alain Mikli and Denmark’s Prodesign (who call themselves architects) to traditional faves like Prada and Chanel, Spectacle is for those who like to make a statement with their bifocals. After all, they’re the only accessory you wear every waking hour. Dhillon’s picks: Mosley Tribes (the store’s featured line by Paul Smith eyewear), from $260 the PACT collection by designer Alan Mikli, from $480 Derome Brenner sunglasses, from $280 and trendy Etnia frames, from $265.

Look for: Mimosa cocktails on Sunday afternoons the traditional Boxing Week sale, when all frames go for half-price and stickers that indicate specific frames that are exclusive to the store and quite possibly the nation.

Hours: Monday to Wednesday 11 am to 6 pm, Thursday to Friday 11 am to 7 pm, Saturday 11 am to 6 pm, Sunday noon to 5 pm.
