If we’ve learned anything from the infamous lyrics of rock’s hairy godfathers (ZZ Top), it’s that sharp-dressed men get more play from the ladies (and get invited to more business meetings, parties, proms, weddings, funerals). But if you’re lacking in the coin department yet still desire quality tailoring and imported fabrics, you’ll definitely need the resale services of Lee Romberg’s Off the Cuff.
This hidden uptown gem located at the base of an office building (just follow the sign) has been hooking up well-heeled gents with serious designer menswear (from Italian linen shirts to Prada suits and even tuxedos) for way less than retail prices since 1993. And unlike the hit-or-miss thrift store scene, Off the Cuff’s goods are all solid gold hits.
Romberg’s picks: Men’s dress shirts by Pal Zileri, $140, Miu Miu, $160, and Hugo Boss, $60 Pal Zileri pinstripe wool suit with surgeon’s cuff, $699 light-weight wool black-and-red pinstripe suit by Jill Sander, $799 and light blue virgin wool blazer by Hugo Boss, $350.
Look for: Silk ties priced as low as $5 barely worn shoes (like the killer Miu Miu trainers I saw at press time) a well stocked half-off clearance rack and the newly revamped website launching today (Thursday, May 5).
