Style Notes for March 30 to April 6

Work it at One of a Kind

It’s interesting timing that fashion week and the One of a Kind Show overlap on the Exhibition grounds this week. Fashion Week’s Fall 2011 tag line is “The Business of Fashion” but we’re betting the One of A Kind designers selling their stuff next door in the Direct Energy Centre today until Sunday (April 3) are the ones who actually walk away with money in the bank. The spring show’s lineup includes lots of T.O.-based clothing and accessory labels including Biko, Cha Cha, Hoi Bo, Oh Dina!, Karamea, Las Valentias and Carrie Hayes. Tickets are $10 online and $12 at the door.

Tattoo benefit

Walk-in appointments are hard to come by at Archive Tattoo Studio (1528 Dundas West, 647-342-8494, archivetattoo.com) but artist David Glantz and his team are offering a day of drop-by inking this Sunday (April 3) to raise money for disaster relief in Japan. Customers can choose from a book of small to medium sized, Japanese-inspired designs priced between $50 and $150.

Shop for the cause

Also on the Japan fundraising front, Nathalie-Roze & Co. (1015 Queen East, 416-792-1699, nathalie-roze.com) is hosting a Shop for the Cause pop up sale this weekend. Donated merch from designers and retailers like Damzels, Lilliput Hats, Red Pegasus and Labour of Love will be 20 to 70 per cent off with 100 per cent of the proceeds donated to Red Cross relief efforts.

Call for submissions

Propaganda (686 Yonge, 416-961-0555) is known for its jewellery, accessory and gift buys but now owner Regina Sheung is on the hunt for fresh creative types to spotlight in an upcoming art show. If you make Japanese pop culture-inspired fibre art, sculpture or painting, send your submission in between March 31 and April 21. Full application info is online at thelabouroflove.ca.
