Style Notes for November 21 to 28

One of a Kind gifting

Eager gift hunters, listen up! The One of a Kind Show kicks off this Thursday (November 22) at the Direct Energy Centre (Exhibition Place) featuring present-worthy picks from over 800 vendors. Special features this season include a competition of mistletoe-themed creations, a hall of fame display of standout artisans, a gingerbread house auction benefitting Habitat for Humanity and late night shopping until 11 pm on November 29. Adult tickets are $14 on site or $12 in advance online at oneofakindshow.com.

Yorkdale blows up

Personal space can get pretty tight at Yorkdale (3401 Dundas West, 416-785-1776, yorkdale.com) as holiday shopping deadlines approach but the 145,000 extra square feet that’s just been added to the mall might help that. Unveiled last Friday (November 16), the extra room has been stocked with new-to-Canada retailers including Kate Space New York, Microsoft, Ted Baker London and Tesla Motors. Other openings include Anthropologie, Best Buy, Ann Taylor and Northface.

Black Friday promo

Mall rats might also want to know that Vaughan Mills (1 Bass Pro Mills, 905-879-2110, vaughanmills.com) is celebrating one of the biggest deal days of the holiday shopping season this Friday (November 23) with loads of Black Friday promotions. Two hundred and fifty-plus stores will be open from 8 am to 9 pm offering up to 80 per cent off discounts. Deal-hungry downtowners can board the mall’s Black Friday shuttle service at Union Station at 7 am, 10 am and 1 pm.

Sweet deals

There are more Black Friday deals being dished out at Gafas (561 Queen West, 416-601-4786, gafas.ca) where you’ll find 75 per cent off optical frames and sunglasses November 23 to 25. At Balisi (711 Queen West, 416-203-2388, and others, balisi.com), the Black Friday deals are already on. Look for 20 per cent off when you purchase one item, 25 per cent off when you buy two and 30 per cent off when you pick up three pairs of shoes, pieces of clothing and/or accessories.
