The secret to beating dull between-seasons skin

It’s tricky enough keeping skin in good condition, but that nasty period between summer and winter, when temperatures fluctuate hourly, can lead to especially bad days. Many of us suffer from dryness, dullness, flakiness and general discomfort. All that can also add up to acne breakouts, more prominent lines and volume loss.

I had almost given up on finding true hydration during this hellish period, but then I tried Intraceuticals (intraceuticals.com). This is the stuff J.Lo uses, so you know it’s good (and, no, the brand doesn’t pay her to promote or use their products).

To get your face back into fighting shape, get a professional Intraceuticals oxygen facial at Madison Beauty (from $185, 560 Mt. Pleasant, 416-488-6284, madisonbeautystudio.com) or Ritual ($185, 571 Wellington West, 416-306-0040, ritual.ca). The two salons take different approaches to the treatment, but they both have seriously awesome – and immediate – results.

Madison, an ethereal beauty boutique, combines Intraceuticals products with other treatments to achieve desired results. The experience is relaxing and traditionally spa-like. In contrast, Ritual takes more of a medi-spa approach, offering enhancements like dermaplaning (an intense exfoliation technique using a surgical scalpel).

If you don’t have time to make it to the spa or just want to maintain results between appointments, Intraceuticals’ at-home lines are extremely effective because they deliver hyaluronic acid to the deepest dermal layers. My skin has never gotten so many compliments. One friend even asked if I’d had work done. (Spoiler alert: I haven’t.)

There are a few lines to address different skin concerns: Rejuvenate for hydration, Opulence for brightening, Atoxelene for anti-aging and Clarity for blemish-prone skin. Pick them up at Madison individually ($65-$185) or purchase a Course Kit at Ritual, which includes six professional treatments and three full-size at home products ($1,110).
