The week’s news, views and sales

Nakashima at Mjölk

Junction design shop Mjölk (2959 Dundas West, 416-551-9853, mjolk.ca) is presenting the first Canadian exhibition of the work of George Nakashima, on now until August 30. The show includes some of the American-born architect and craftsman’s signature pieces as well as works by his daughter Mira, granddaughter Maria and great-granddaughter Maya, who are all continuing his work as designers and artists. Select pieces by contemporary Japanese artisans working within Nakashima’s tradition will also be on display.

Designer yard sale

Have some old (yet awesome) clothing lying around? Email info@iheartblackbird.com to add your duds to T.O. jewellery label Blackbird’s Yard Sale shopping event this weekend. From Friday to Sunday (July 26 to 28), lots of gently used men’s and women’s fashion will be up for grabs at OZ Studios (134 Ossington) along with specially priced baubles from the Blackbird collection. Cash, debit, Visa and MasterCard will be accepted.

E-boutique hopping

This week’s Store of the Week isn’t the only new e-shop worth noting. Runway Crush (runwaycrush.com) is a new platform for Canadian designers looking to easily add e-commerce to their business. Early adopters with boutiques on the site include Toronto labels Ariel Fu, Phaessa and Amparo Hats.
