Banana Republic (80 Bloor West, 416-515-0018, and others, bananarepublic.ca) has paired up with London label Issa (issalondon.com) on a capsule collection of clothing and accessories launching today (Thursday, August 8). The lineup includes safari-inspired dresses, bags and jewellery priced between $50 and $185. In other big-brand news, Zara (zarahome.com) is bringing its Home line to Canada, opening its first store at Yorkdale (3401 Dufferin) on August 22.

By the book

Set aside some time this Sunday (August 11) to visit Mercer Union’s (1286 Bloor West, mercerunion.org) Small Press Book Fair, Curio And Vintage Sale. From 10 am to 5 pm, book and magazine vendors including Coach House Books, Paper Pusher Printworks and Paul + Wendy Projects, plus vintage outfits Life of Manek, Sourced and Salvaged and more will sell their stuff alongside mobile ice cream pusher Be Good Gelato. Admission is pay what you can.

The GTA’s first American-style designer outlet mall has opened at 13850 Steeles West in Halton Hills. Toronto Premium Outlets’ (torontopremiumoutlets.ca) retailer lineup includes Hudson’s Bay Outlet, Brooks Brothers, Burberry, Coach, Cole Haan, DKNY,

J.Crew, Kate Spade New York, Polo Ralph Lauren, Restoration Hardware, Ted Baker London and 80-plus other brands.

Sweet deals

The month-long annual sunglass sale, featuring 25 to 50 per cent off all shades, is on until the end of August at Opticianado (2919 Dundas West, 416-604-2020, opticianado.com). And at Forever 21 (220 Yonge, 416-260-1337, and others, canada.forever21.com), students with a valid school ID get 15 per cent off back-to-class fashion on August 12 and 19.3
