Your guide to a trio of temporary shops
Pop-up shops are, well, popping up everywhere to satisfy holiday shopping appetites and beef up the year-end bottom lines of designers and retailers. Here’s the low down on three gone-in-a-flash spots where you can gift hunt this weekend.
Holts takes it downtown
Holt Renfrew is brining some of its magenta-coloured holiday magic to King and Portland starting today. The Yorkville retailer has taken over the sales centre for the Fashion House condo development (560 King West) and filled it with androgynous style buys perfect for the gender bending dresser on your list. Local finds include studded Christopher Sherman bow ties, Dandi Maestre cuffs and Dean Davidson jewellery. The shop is open daily until Sunday.
Full disclosure before I start spreading the word on this next temporary store. I’ve had a hand in organizing the Burroughes Holiday Pop-Up Shop (639 Queen West) which opens tomorrow at Queen and Bathurst. The list of great Toronto designers gathered for the four day event includes MADE, le Petit Beret, DaLish Cosmetics, Mercy and Cuffwear. Todor Kobakov launches the event with a piano performance Thursday night at 7 pm.
For a more intimate flash fashion experience, visit The Loft (52 St. Lawrence, #324) this Saturday and Sunday (11 am to 7 pm) for a pop-up boutique featuring Psalms 91:1 Accessories, Brazen Hussy dresses, 442 McAdam handbags and Aime by Monica Mei womenswear. Also look for cupcake treats, mini Mary Kay makeovers and 10 per cent of sales being donating to the Dr. Roz Healing Place. [rssbreak]
