Public displays of affection, also known as PDA, can be a hot topic of conversation. But it seems like most people in Toronto are OK with a little smooching in public, as long as no one takes it too far.

Some people enjoy loving on their boo in public, showing their love by kissing, hugging or holding hands. And for the most part, people told This is Dating Now that they were OK with those displays.

“I guess making out with tongue might be a little excessive, but if people want to kiss, hug, hold hands in public. That’s their business, not mine,” one person in Toronto’s Liberty Village said.

“I don’t know that I’d set a specific limit on tongue or anything, but I think [it’s OK] if people want to give a little romance in public, as long as it’s not too much,” his friend shared.

But there is a limit on what is appropriate, and everyone we spoke to shared that PDA is all fun and games until it gets a little too spicy.

“Anything below the belt, it gets a little touchy there,” one person explained.

A married woman in the city agrees, sharing that she loves holding her husband’s hand while they’re out and about in the city, but things should not get too sexual in public.

“I’d prefer his hands not down my pants,” she laughed, but added that holding hands, kissing, and other sweet moments of affection are fine in her book.

One young woman who is in a relationship said that public displays of affection are appropriate, to a certain extent.

“Holding hands is good, holding them around the waist is fine. No more than a peck in public,” she shared.

While a young man in the city shared that it can be heartwarming to see other people who are obviously in love.

“It can sometimes be too much, but sometimes it’s quite beautiful,” he explained.

“When they’re on top of each other out in the park, that’s a little too much,” he continued, adding that there’s nothing wrong with holding hands or cuddling.

“I just love love.”
