What I bought

Andrew Stewart is a renter, but the PR account manager’s approach to renting is a bit more strategic than most. He’s just moved into his second unit in Great Gulf’s X Condominium at Jarvis and Charles, and he’s checked out two other floor plans in the building as he prepares to take the plunge into condo ownership here next year.

“I love this building, but I want to try a few different layouts before I buy,” he says. “My friend lived in this unit before me, so I already knew what a great condo it was. As soon as he posted on his Facebook that he was moving, I grabbed it.”

Stewart quickly outfitted the 620-square-foot, 14th-floor, one-bedroom space with his collection of wooden cigar boxes and contemporary furniture. His next project is setting up the bright balcony for tanning, gardening and summer cocktails.

Planned budget: “I think the budget for my next condo in this building will be around 400k.”

Wish list: One-bedroom plus den, a big balcony, a storage locker, a view and a great layout with good flow.

What he says about his neighbourhood: “It’s the perfect blend of Bloor Street society and gay village charm. I work close by and love passing by the designer windows every morning.”
