Winkel, 1107 Queen East, 416-465-4247
A garden of mammoth yellow, orange and red dyed paper flowers, bought from the Toronto film set of Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, is the newest addition to Kari Measham 's Queen and Pape curiosity boutique Winkel . They sprout between shelves filled with vintage seltzer bottles, china kitty cookie jars and bold-printed bolts of DIY-ready oilcloth. Measham calls Winkel "a little shop with a lot of stuff," and her movie-set-decorator day job makes her an expert at tracking down vintage furniture and home accessories, handcrafted paper products and gifty goodies.
Drum-shaded ceiling fixtures and retro Life magazines that Measham suggests having framed as art are perfect for interiors that eschew monochromatic taupe decor trends. Gift products like Slip Stitch Designs' over-sewn vinyl bags get discovered off the beaten gift trade show track, guaranteeing your own wonderful and unique Winkel find.
