Yes to Fashion No No

It must be this balmy weather that has us itching to leave the house again. Luckily for our renewed interest in the outside world, there are two fashion and design must see shows to check out before we plunge back into the depths of winter.

Harbourfront Centre is presenting Fashion No No which claims to not be about fashion at all except that it kind of is. The group exhibition includes life sized, human shaped pin cushions by designer-turned-artist Annie Thompson. Andrea Ling’s wooden dress (pictured above) is a tornado of veneer. Hilly Yeung recreates designer footwear with slips of paper to every shoeaholic’s delight.

The show continues until March 8.

If you didn’t get enough of the local design scene at IDS, Come Up To My Room and Radiant Dark this past weekend, get another furniture fix at Thout’s In the Red pop up show in a gallery space (1140 Queen West) just east of the Drake. Shop designers Patrick Turner and Andrea Pearson’s armchairs constructed using rough planks of spruce, a wonderfully wiry extension cord chandelier and their iconic white cedar stump stools.

This one is open Wednesdays to Saturdays noon to 6 pm and Sundays noon to 4 pm until February 28.
