The fountain menace: a new hope

After six years mired in chain-link purgatory and construction hell, the three fountains on the University Ave. median just north of Queen finally began flowing again late last week.

According to old Fixer articles in the Star, they were originally shut off in 2009 when water began leaking into Osgoode station. The needed retro-fitting wasnt completed until last year, when the fountains were turned back on for a week before being shut down again due to a valve problem that led to litigation between the city and the contractor.

We’re not sure what changed to allow the Nelson Mandela Blvd. water feature to come back on this time, but we’re scared that inquiring might jinx it.
