GLOBAL METAL (Sam Dunn and Scot McFadyen) Rating: NNNN
Filmmakers Sam Dunn and Scot McFadyen, previously responsible for giving us Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey, have once again succeeded at merging pop-academia, fan film and documentary together in their latest, a flick that takes on the cultural significance of metal, and frames it within a seldom-realized global perspective. Globetrotting from South America to the Middle East and Asia, the fascinating and fast-paced film is as much about the individuals who carry metal’s torche through their homelands – with often adverse effects – as it is about the music.
