#20. My Morning Jacket

Rating: NNNNN

It wasn’t all that long ago that Kentucky’s My Morning Jacket (June 16, Kool Haus, 8 pm) were slogging it out on stages like the Horseshoe’s. But even back then, if you were lucky enough to see them, it wasn’t hard to notice that there was something special about them.

These reverb junkies play a kind of Southern-inspired, slightly psychedelic alt-country rock, and they’ve toured enough to develop a reputation as one of those bands you need to see live to really appreciate. The serious volume these dudes can pump out, singer Jim James’s haunting, earnest voice and some Skynyrd-worthy guitar work mean MMJ should definitely be at the top of your NXNE wish list.
