Toronto MC/producer 4th Pyramid (aka Adam Farag) isn’t technically indie anymore (his Silk Ivory boutique label is now signed to Universal), but his approach is still very much based on the classic Canadian underground hip-hop model. Rather than boasting about imaginary mansions, he brags about being broke (ok, maybe he’s not bragging, but you get the picture).
He’s worked with tons of big names like Pete Rock, MF Doom, Cannibal Ox, El-P, Cosmo Baker and various Wu Tang Clan members, but he’s kept the guests on his debut full length album much more Toronto-focused than his rolodex could have allowed. His new single is produced by Toronto’s own Marco Polo.
Of course post-Drake it’s cool to rep Toronto, so this is far less of a liability than it could have been a few years ago.
