A SXSW punk supergroup

At a festival like this, most bands are hoping to get record deal, some press, or at least boost their career in some way.

Demolished Thoughts, however, appear to be trying for pretty much the opposite, but still making a bit splash at SXSW nevertheless.

It’s a punk rock cover band supergroup, featuring J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr), Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth), record producer Don Fleming, Awesome Allison (Awesome Colour) and Andrew WK. Well, it was supposed to feature Andrew WK, but he didn’t seem to actually show up for any of the gigs (despite giving interviews for the band), and so Jonah Falco from Toronto hardcore heroes Fucked Up filled in on bass.

Kind of like the punk equivalent of an all-star classic rock band jamming out blues covers.

Moore read lyrics off a handful of papers, and delivered punk rock rants between songs, still somehow managing to come across like a teenager thrashing his way through a blistering set of 80s hardcore anthems.

It comes across as pretty much a joke group, and you don’t really get the feeling they’re ever going to record any of this stuff, but it’s a hell of a lot of fun if you ever wasted your teens damaging your eardrums at hardcore shows like me.[rssbreak]
