The sad truth about Alejandro Escovedo is that, like many writers, his best work typically comes with emotional upheaval. And while that may lead some to draw the wrong parallels between the breakup blues of A Man Under The Influence and his personal misfortune, that’s something he’s prepared to live with for the sake of the song. The important thing here is that he’s at last struck the elusive balance between electric guitars and chamber strings. The result is a roaring quiet best experienced live at Ted’s Wrecking Yard Wednesday (May 16).
