DAKONA

DAKONA Perfect Change ( Maverick ) Rating: NN

Rating: NN

Wow, here I am thinking I’m overdue for some sprawling Modern Rock Radio boy angst since Matchbox 20 haven’t dropped a new album in awhile. Thank heavens Vancouver’s Dakona showed up to whine loudly and painfully about their foibles over generic major-key fuzzed-out guitars and meathead drums. This is serious torment, dude. Like, they really, really take themselves seriously – you can tell from song titles like In God’s Name (about religious hypocrisy) and Soul For Sale (about selling your soul). I mean, Leonard Cohen better watch his back with Ryan McAllister going off like “I should go and make this clear / But instead I will hang like a cheap chandelier / Over you.” Ouch. Dakona open for Michelle Branch at the Kool Haus this Sunday (October 19).
