Remember that video game that Toronto’s Jim Guthrie scored a soundtrack for recently? It was a pretty cool little game, and the music was also great, but it seems that Lil Wayne may have enjoyed it so much, that he decided to grab a bit of it for She Will, his new song with Drake .
Rap blog hiphopisread.com stumbled on the similarity earlier on today, and Guthrie was quick to react via twitter:
Listening to the full version of the Lil Wayne track, it’s hard not to hear the resemblance, even with the layers of synth swoops obscuring the hypnotic melodic figure. Given Guthrie’s surprise, it seem unlikely that anyone approached him for permission, so he may have just lucked into a small goldmine if he’s got good enough lawyers.
Maybe Wayne didn’t realize that video game music still counts as music?
