DIE MANNEQUIN

Rating: NNN

While some might argue that repackaging your two previous EPs with very little extra material is just a way to make some extra cash out of their major label distro, I’m gonna call this a smart move on the band’s part – a kind of “Hey, don’t forget about us, cuz we’re actually pretty good and we promise to put out a proper full-length soon” tactic.

There’s nothing new here, just the same snarling alterna-punk that marked singer Care F as a Courtney Love in training. But for those who missed out the first time round, Steak rocks hard enough from start to finish to make it worth checking out for its pretensionless and straight-up sound, which is as catchy as it is abrasive. Next one better be a proper record, though.

Die Mannequin play March 27 at Kool Haus.
