Fall Guide: Music

The fall season is one of the busiest for music. Every band wants to drop their album in time for the holidays and squeeze in a tour before the snow flies. Look for a huge fall/winter music preview in NOW on October 15, but in the meantime, watch out for these hot upcoming concerts.

Stringing along

Critically acclaimed indie folk god Sufjan Stevens comes to Lee’s Palace October 1 for a highly anticipated gig. He’s recently said that he’s working on a rearranged version of his 2001 album, Enjoy Your Rabbit, for strings, performed with the Osso String Quartet, so expect less banjo and more cello.

Surfers’ Phoenix rising

The Butthole Surfers’ disturbing, out-of-control and uniquely intense live shows are even more famous than they are mind-bending. Given that they haven’t toured since the early 2000s, there’s a lot of hype building for their October 2 appearance at the Phoenix.

Gossip girls

Soul-punk heroes Gossip (they’ve dropped “the”) are always good for a hot and sweaty dance party, so they should have no problem tearing the roof off the Opera House October 14. Though they’re enjoying the support of famous fans these days, don’t take that to mean Gossip are about to tone down the feminist queer fierceness any time soon.
