Last year was a helluva summer for music festivals in Toronto. And with Field Trip’s lineup announcement this morning and WayHome’s last week, it’s looking like this year will be just as crazy.
Happening June 4 and 5 at Fort York and Garrison Common, which is sure to be lined with food trucks and art installations, Field Trip has the everydude-indie-rock of the National in the headlining spot on Saturday and the Swedish pop genius of Robyn as the Sunday headliner.
We’re equally excited to catch Charles Bradley’s soulful goodness, local rapper extraordinaire and recent NOW cover star Jazz Cartier, Philly rapper/singer/songwriter Santigold (whose new album we’re eagerly anticipating), Australia’s Boy & Bear, and arty weirdoes Of Montreal.
If you didn’t snag a ticket to Basia Bulat’s sold-out Mod Club show on Friday, you can see her at the Arts & Crafts-affiliated festival, alongside Tei Shi, DIIV, Bully, Kalle Mattson and our own Holy Fuck (fingers crossed that this appearance is tied to the release of their long-awaited new album).
Field Trip stands out for its family-friendly focus, and this year its day camp programming (aimed at kids 12 and under, who get in free) will be expanded. The fest also offers a mess hall, a comedy stage and virtual reality experiences.
