Sometimes all it takes is one simple idea to unmask the banality of an established ritual. Why put on one band at a time when you can put on four?

That was the question Corey Wells asked when, last summer, he dreamed up a unique live music format: the Four Corners concert. Rather than staging one band after another, the event placed four bands on the floor simultaneously, alternating short sets by each. For the turbulent finale, everyone jammed together on one song.

“There was potential for disaster, certainly, but it ended up running surprisingly smoothly,” says Jordan Richie, Wells’s co-organizer and Ancestors bandmate. “Since then, people keep asking us when we’ll do another one. So we’re doing another one.”

This time Quest for Fire, Lullabye Arkestra, Sun RaRaRa and Rituals give the format another try. Richie admits there’s still the possibility of disaster.

“That’s why it’s worth doing again.”
