The first song on the Holland-?based avant-?black doom metal band’s latest is called My Body Is Not A Vessel, Nor A Temple, It’s A Repulsive Pile Of Sickness. Within seconds, you’re being suffocated with a depressing storm of abrasively bombastic, dissonant horns and pounding, timpani-?style thuds, so the lasting impression the record leaves is seriously uncomfortable and disturbing.
Borrowing heavily from horror movie scores, the band continues to push the extent to which their music engages emotionally, this time on a noticeably more grandiose scale that also brings to mind a kind of depraved symphonic grandeur. Between the shrill violins and the blood-?curdling screams, there is something unique and almost horrifying about this close-?to-?perfect record that should leave you feeling nothing less than drained. If that’s your thing.
