Gonzales thanks Drake later

We at NOW just love pointing out inconsistencies in the hip-hop world. Here’s one that involves Drake.

On Sunday, the rapper opened his Junos monologue with musical accompaniment from Chilly Gonzales on piano. The two seemed chummy as ever as Drizzy ran through an amusing cover of Informer by Snow, and serenaded Shania Twain.

Interesting, then, what the Guinness-record-holding pianist told Canadian fashion magazine Corduroy in 2009, when asked about Drake sampling his composition The Tourist on So Far Gone: “I must confess, I’m not a Drake fan,” he said.

“I guess Canadians should be proud that they finally have the closest thing they’ll ever have to a credible hip-hop personality, but I’m sorry, I’m just not a fan.”

Zing.

Perhaps Thank Me Later won him over, or maybe Gonzales doesn’t need to be into someone to work with them (hint hint, Feist).
