We woke up to big Canadian music industry news today. Arts & Crafts co-founder Jeffrey Remedios has become the president/CEO of Universal Music Canada, effective September 21. He replaces Randy Lennox, who is moving on to Bell Media as president of entertainment production and broadcasting.
Remedios co-founded the Toronto boutique indie label in 2003 with Daniel Cutler and Broken Social Scene’s Kevin Drew, releasing breakthrough albums by BSS, Feist, Stars, Jason Collett and many others while also expanding its offices beyond Toronto to L.A. and Mexico City. Remedios also founded A&C’s music and arts festival Field Trip.
The label released a statement shortly after Universal’s, announcing Kieran Roy as the new president. Roy had been vice-president, general manager and co-owner.
“Kieran has been instrumental to the growth and shape we’ve taken as a company, proving so valuable we made him a partner and co-owner in 2011,” says Remedios. “Kieran has been ready to lead Arts & Crafts for years now.”
Remedios will retain his ownership share and serve as a board member. Long-time staffers Heidi Krohnert and Matt Brown are A&C’s new vice-presidents.
