JULIE FADER at Whippersnapper. Sat, June 20. nxne.com Rating: NNN
Mega-talented hot commodity Julie Fader came close to fading into the background at this noisy Whippersnapper show due to her ridiculously quiet vocals and the ridiculously dim onstage lights.
Her dark, moody snail's pace songs challenged the party-ready crowd, but ultimately won them over, thanks in part to a banjo guest appearance by Justin Rutledge and a vocal guest appearance by headliner Brian Borcherdt. The angel-voiced Toronto singer/songwriter - who plays with Chad Van Gaalen, Sarah Harmer and Great Lake Swimmers among many others - releases an album on Hand-Drawn Dracula this August. Can't wait.
