Kreayshawn, not quite

Rating: NN

Could there be a more divisive person on the Internet today than Kreayshawn?

A few years ago, Perez Hilton might be in the running for that title. But today, that person is likely V Nasty, Kreayshawn’s n-word (ab)using sidekick.

All three were in one room together for Hilton’s SXSW showcase, which featured Canadians Dragonette, producer Timbaland and female rapper Dev.

Hilton acknowledged the trio’s popularity online in his introduction. He said the Internet’s been good to him, allowing him to showcase music every year at SXSW, and it’s been good to Kreayshawn too, though he didn’t expand on that.

To be fair, Kreayshawn is proving her appeal by staying in the game on the strength of one minor hit, Gucci Gucci, and her aforementioned divisiveness.

She may have developed a following, but Kreayshawn hasn’t really done much to make her live show worth paying attention to.

Her vocals were high-pitched and mostly inaudible. And when you could hear, every word out of her mouth was either ironic or some lip service to current rap trends.

Her music is decidedly anti-mainstream, frequently lashing out against “basic bitches” and, as per the Gucci Gucci, women who sacrifice personality for designer threads. I’m not sure if they were in on this joke, but much of the crowd was wearing these types of designer clothes.

V Nasty was in hype woman mode, jumping around and coming in occasionally for emphasis. I guess expected more from her, since this year she made a mixtape, though horrible, with Gucci Mane, and she has another one, getting decent reviews, out earlier this month.

The two have enough lovers, haters and moxy to make a name for themselves in- and outside of the rap establishment. But not much else, as of this show.
