Album reviews Music

Len

Rating: NNN

How do you outdo yourself when your group is among the greatest in music history? It’s likely not a dilemma Len – a poppier mix of Blink 182 and Black Eyed Peas – had to deal with during The Diary Of The Madmen sessions. Their album title refers to how crazy they are, which is the first sign that the Steal My Sunshine kids are about as crazy as a cup of tap water. This is further proven by the crew’s smiling insistence on covering New Edition and the Buggles and writing songs about just havin’ a good time, y’know, like back in the day (yecch). Then there are these great moments where they work with strings, horns, abstract circus rhymes, late-90s acid jazz, even some downhearted art pop, and prove there’s some talent at the heart of a band, who just really want their songs played on radio and TV.
