NXNE Tipsheet: Friday

Hopefully you’re not burnt out already on NXNE, because there’s tons of great bands playing tonight too. Here’s some recommendations to help you figure out what to hit tonight.

Dum Dum Girls One of the best groups today mining the whole fuzzed-out-girl-group vibe, and unlike many, a consistently good live show. Dum Dum Girls play Lee’s Palace tonight. Watch a video of the Girls playing the sister festival SXSW here.

Library Voices Regina seven-piece indie pop band Library Voices play their second NXNE gig tonight at Mod Club.

Braids Since moving to Montreal from Calgary, Braids have been enjoying a ton of buzz. They play their first of two NXNE gigs tonight at the Garrison.

Cults Brooklyn’s Cults have been surfing an impressive wave of hype over the last year, and play their first of two NXNE gigs tonight at Lee’s Palace.

Art Brut Apparently Art Brut don’t think their songs are nearly as funny as we do, but that’s not reason to not check them out tonight at Mod Club.

DAKOTA Perhaps following the enigmatic example of the Weeknd, Toronto dark synth wave project DAKOTA has been incredibly tight lipped about who they actually are. Find out who’s behind the beats tonight at the Drake.

Shuyler Jansen Edmonton’s Shuyler Jansen is great at mixing up roots and country influences with more modern textures and synthetic tones. He plays a NXNE BBQ this afternoon at Global Village Backpackers, and then does his official showcase Saturday at the Painted Lady.

Rich Aucoin Halifax experimental pop musician Rich Aucoin is known for bizarre joyous live shows, which you can catch for yourself tonight at the Garrison.
