PAT JORDACHE at the Garrison on Wednesday, June 15. NXNE. Rating: NNNN
Attendance was sparse for Pat Jordache’s day one/slot one NXNE set, but those who came out early seemed receptive to the Montreal group’s art-pop pastiche.
Patrick Gregoire (Islands, Tune-Yards, Sister Suvi) recorded the debut alone on his computer, but the songs adapted well to the full-band treatment.
The use of two drummers helped create a nice propulsive groove, while Gregoire’s untrained baritone was punched up with more prominent post-punk guitar melodies. Less experimental than on record, but better suited to a live setting.
