Hamilton rock group Arkells have made their love of Tobias Jesso Jr.’s irresistible mop of curly hair official.
In a statement announcing their cover of Jesso’s Can’t Stop Thinking About You, Arkells frontman Max Kerman admitted that, yes, the North Vancouver singer/songwriter does in fact have nicer hair than he does.
“When I heard the Tobias record I immediately got jealous,” Kerman says. “The chord melodies and string arrangement are right up my alley. He’s channelling all the 70s piano balladeers that I love so much. I think there is a real kinship in our songwriting, and dude’s got nicer curls than me, too. Might be a long-lost cousin.”
Incidentally, both Arkells and Jesso Jr. are on the long list for this year’s Polaris Prize. Whether they’ll need to ready their blow-dryers for the September 21 gala hinges on either act making the short list, which will be revealed July 16.
