Prince has died

Prince fans around the world are reeling from news of his death.

In late March, Toronto got the chance to take in not one, not two, but three surprise performances by pop-funk icon, who is only 57. Now, not even one month later, the pop-funk legend has passed away. TMZ broke the story on the morning of Thursday, April 21. His publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure, confirmed the news.

The multi-instrumentalist genius had a medical emergency on April 15 that forced him to make an emergency landing in Illinois, but he told fans at a concert the following day that he was simply battling the flu. He didn’t, however, perform at that show and told fans to “wait a few days before you waste any prayers.”

The cause of death is still unclear.

The news is extra-shocking considering that he was in top form at the Sony Centre on March 25 during his solo Piano And A Microphone tour, taking the stage in dramatic fashion, standing above his piano in a superhero pose and doing laps. He played two shows that night, then showed up at the Everleigh and performed a mini set at 4:15 am.

An investigation by the Carver County Sheriff’s Office is still underway.
