TMDP + YYZ = BUZZ

Back in February 2008, Gavin Rough and Jeffrey Addison met with local promoter Craig Hill to discuss the possibility of performing at his brand-new monthly, Rollin’ & Scratchin’. They played him some tracks off their laptop and instantly landed their first gig as TMDP.

Flash forward one year and Hill now runs YYZ Records, a bustling label he formed last summer to manage TMDP’s burgeoning success. Critical praise and sold-out shows have the duo in demand around Toronto and abroad. Both band and label operate out of a dedicated studio/office space fittingly located next to the Supermarket – the club that brought the two parties together.

YYZ recently released the duo’s addictive disco-synth self-titled debut worldwide. During its recording, Addison and Rough endured a round-the-clock recording schedule and a near-starvation diet.

“When we were recording the album, neither of us had jobs,” Addison says. “When we finished, we were very depressed, very hungry and deep in the hole.”

They’re excited to see how far their new release will take them. Hill was recently in Paris promoting the record, and they’ll be leaving on tour very soon.

Till then, they aren’t sitting still. With the addition of a live drummer (Karl Snyder of Kidstreet), they’re about to begin another intensive recording stint in a matter of days. And judging by the killer demos they let me sample, TMDP are dead serious about their new careers.

Says Addison, “We’re a very, very lucky band.”
