Toronto’s outdated anthem

The winner of the Toronto Song Contest was announced Friday, and while we understand that it’s got to be tough to sum up the city in one song, this one seems like it came from some alternate timeline where Brian Adams’ Summer Of ’69 is still at the top of the charts and John Cougar Mellencamp was still making teenage girls’ hearts flutter.

Apologies to the songwriters for singling them out, but We All Live In Toronto is just about the corniest thing we’ve heard in recent memory.

No surprise that the guys behind it write jingles in their spare time, but given the other submissions, we are surprised that this is the one that the judges picked.

Sure, they’re all a bit goofy, but most of them sound at least somewhat more contemporary, and many make a strong effort to reflect the cultural diversity that really defines what makes this city different.

If we were in charge, we probably would have given it to T.Oed by Abdominal and The Obliques (featuring Notes To Self) a fun and light hearted hip-hop tour of the city.

However, we’re sure you opinionated NOW readers have your own ideas. What would you have picked as the winner for the Toronto Song Contest?[rssbreak]
