V-Fest moves, again

It would seem we weren’t the only ones who were sceptical about the plans to move Toronto’s Virgin Festival to the middle of nowhere – it was just announced that due to general lack of enthusiasm and ticket sales that they’ve changed their mind again and are now moving it back to Toronto and giving up on that whole camping idea.

It’s still happening August 29 and 30, but now it’s at the Molson Amphitheatre, which doesn’t have the charm of the original location on Toronto Island, but is a lot more accessible and appealing to those of us too lukewarm on the line-up to want to make an entire outdoor weekend of it.

In a sign that the festival’s fortunes have declined significantly, not only are the moving the fest, but they’re also reducing ticket prices significantly. Originally one-day tickets were $59.90 (two days for $99), but now you can buy a lawn seat for as little as $39.50 (good seats are still the original price), which may piss off those few who’ve already bought full price tickets.

So what’s the issue this year? Is it the retro-focussed line up? The recession? Lack of interest in camping among music fans?[rssbreak]
